Roberts Dreamdock tackles the problem of bright alarm clock displays

Roberts latest alarm bedside clock radio is an iPod-docking, remote-controlled wonder, with quick access to your favourite station on a dedicated button.

With its built-in iPod/iPhone dock, DAB digital radio and FM radio tuners and twin 57mm diameter speakers (giving 2 x 1.8 Watts RMS output), the unit offers you a fair few types of wake-up call at a volume that can be adjusted.

Roberts Dreamdock features no less than four display backlight brightness settings: high, medium and low and an "almost invisible" night-time setting: it is often a concern that cheap DAB alarm clock displays completely light up the room. There are also combined display contrast and viewing angle settings. Clearly, Roberts has gone all-out to cater for listeners' varying needs.

Sporting the "made for iPod and iPhone" badge, the Apple device's menus can be access through the Dreamdock's comprehensive remote control. The remote, in fact, duplicates all of the buttons and functionality of the alarm clock unit.

There are dual alarms, which can be set to any combination of daily, weekly, weekday-only and weekend slumber modes - and the Dreamdock will remember settings in case of a power failure. You can choose to be woken by your favourite DAB station, FM radio, Apple device, buzzer or via another audio device plugged into the 3.5mm audio input socket.

Any of ten stations stored as presets can be chosen as the alarm, or the station last listened to. If your fave station should somehow disappear from the airwaves overnight, the rising-volume buzzer sound will make sure you're up in the morning!

Adjustable sleep and snooze timers and automatic time setting (using the DAB signal) complete the alarm functions of the Dreamdock.

Around the back of the unit you'll find a headphone socket, 3.5mm audio in jack, DC input socket (the Dreamdock uses an adaptor, which plugs into the mains) and a captive wire aerial.

The Roberts Dreamdock measures 170mm wide by 72mm high by 132mm deep and weighs 600 grams.

With so many adjustable alarm and display features on offer, plus a handy remote, the Roberts Dreamdock really does cover all bases. With twin speakers for stereo sound out-of-the-box and a useful headphone socket, its worth serious consideration if you're looking for an alarm clock dock.

The Roberts Dreamdock's RRP is £89.99, but you can find it online at Amazon, buy via John Lewis (with free additional guarantee) or Co-op Electrical.
