Revo AXiS XS - covering all music sources to excess

If the name's a bit of mouthful, don't let that put you off - it's just that Revo has crammed in as much as possible into its latest DAB+ and internet radio stunner.

Not everyone has a blinkin' iPod or iPhone, so Revo have taken the initiative of adding Bluetooth connectivity to the XS, which means that Android 'phone owners, for example, won't be left out. They can stream music from their 'phone for playback through the AXiS XS. In fact, any 'phone or device that uses a modern Bluetooth profile will find the XS - shall we say - musically enhancing.

DAB (including DAB+ broadcasts, heard abroad), FM and internet radio stations can all be accessed via the XS' 3.5 inch colour touchscreen. There's support for DAB slideshow and RadioVis broadcasts, which aim to enhance the listening experience by syncing weather, news, artist and track information on the XS' colour display during radio programmes and shows.

Of course, all this means nothing if the XS doesn't sound as good as its tech spec; luckily the 8 Watt class D amplifier and clever Balanced Radiator (ported) loudspeaker technology kits the AXiS with enough audio power to fill a small to midsize room.

A remote control, wi-fi internet radio connectivity and alarm clock with sleep and snooze functions give the XS full flexibility in whichever room you listen. In addition, there's music streaming from your PC or Mac, last.fm access, a headphone socket, proper line-level RCA phono and 3.5mm inputs and iDevice video out sockets. iPhone 5 connections are made via a Lightning to 30 pin adaptor. Revo have also managed to squeeze in a USB charging socket.

Just like the latest tablet devices, keyboards, dials and buttons are dispensed with; the AxiS is controllable via its bright touch-sensitive screen.

Measuring in at 220mm (W) x 150mm (D) x 125mm (H), the Revo makes a sophisticated bedside radio, bursting with features.

The Revo AXiS XS is priced at £200 and is available to order direct now, or alternatively from Amazon.

The AXiS XS joins the DAB-enabled PiXis, recently announced.
