Radio listeners urged to support bid for Delays band to achieve number one chart singles position with 'Valentine' on 14th February

Radio stations across the UK are being asked to playlist a song by the band Delays, in support of the band's frontman Greg Gilbert, who has recently been diagnosed with Stage IV bowel cancer. Greg Gilbert and fiancée Stacey Heale have two daughters, Dali aged three and Bay aged one.

Originally released in 2006 and playlisted by BBC Radio 6 music, the single Valentine earned the group their first appearance on Top Of The Pops.

While Greg receives treatment for his cancer, a group of fans have launched a social media campaign #Valentine2Number1 to encourage tech-savvy listeners to spread the word and download the track for 99 pence, to help raise awareness of this form of cancer and contribute to cancer care for Greg. The fans are asking as many people as possible to download the track between 3rd and 9th February, to help the single reach number one for the chart covering 14th February - St. Valentine's Day.

An appeal to pay for cancer treatment for the lead singer of indie band Delays reached its first target within 48 hours, in December 2016.

Hailing from Southampton, Delays have acquired a strong fanbase, with singles such as 'Nearer Than Heaven' and 'Long Time Coming', the latter achieving a UK chart position of 16. The band have released four albums - Faded Seaside Glamour (2004), You See Colours (2006), Everything's the Rush (2008) and Star Tiger Star Ariel (2010).
