How to listen to new radio station BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra during the buildup to St. Andrew's Day celebrations

Just like a popup restaurant serving up something tasty for just a few days, BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra will be dishing up the best of Scotland's homegrown and international music talent from 23rd to 30th November 2016, St Andrew's Day, on DAB digital radio, wi-fi internet radio and online.

Join Roddy Hart each weekday, followed by Jenny Farish hosting the Breakfast Show from 7 - 9am. Bryan Burnett takes over at BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra until 12 noon, with Sanjeev Kohli helping to ease the drive home with more distinctive and diverse music from 5 - 6.30pm. Other presenters include Bargain Huntís Natasha Raskin, Nicola Meighan, Ricky Ross, Janice Forsyth and Billy Sloan.

Deacon Blue singer Ricky Ross said: "Iím looking forward to playing the music I grew up with as well as all the Scottish artists who've influenced my own music. Wall-to-wall music and BBC Radio Scotland - now that's a perfect fit."

The temporary 'pop-up' station will broadcast alongside BBC Radio Scotland, carried on Scotland's local DAB digital radio bundles.

How to tune in and listen on DAB digital radio

The station BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra will be available from Tuesday 22nd November for preparations, before launching on Wednesday 23rd November for eight full days. The station closes at the end of St. Andrew's Day, Wednesday 30th November.

You'll need to tune to BBC Radio Scotland on your DAB digital radio from 22nd November, then after a minute or so look for BBC R Scot Music Extra or BBCScotX (or something similar) to appear in your DAB station list near to BBC Radio Scotland. If you can already receive BBC Radio Scotland on your DAB digital radio, you will also be able to listen to BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra.

Still can't see BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra? You can also retune your DAB digital radio to see if you can pick up the station. The station will broadcast in mono on frequencies used to carry the BBC's national station for Scotland on local radio bundles in Scotland.

To receive DAB digital radio services, you need a newer type of radio which can pick up both DAB and DAB+ digital broadcasts over the airwaves through its built-in aerial, to make sure you've a future-proofed way of listening to DAB digital radio. The station joins BBC Music Jazz on BBC iPlayer Radio as a series of popup stations created by the BBC celebrating music and culture.

How to stream on a wi-fi internet radio

Newer models and internet radios that have received firmware updates to support the BBC's high-quality "HLS" audio streams, such as Roberts Stream 93i, Roberts iStream 2, Pure One Flow, Pure Evoke F4 and Pure Sensia 200D Connect are also able to stream this temporary BBC station.

You can command the Amazon Echo/Echo Dot/Echo Dot 2 to "play BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra on Radioplayer" or "play BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra on TuneIn" to see if it is available on these platforms.
