Pure makes a statement with Evoke C-F6 connected home audio system

Pure's flagship Evoke C-F6 combines FM, DAB and DAB+ receivers with internet radio access and both smartphone and Spotify music streaming via Bluetooth and wireless internet access.

Pure are an accomplished DAB and internet radio designer and the C-F6 is no exception. The C-F6 is one of a trio of new audio systems that include the Pure Evoke C-D6 and Pure Evoke C-D4.

The system picks up both flavours of DAB: regular DAB, such as the BBC national and local stations are broadcast in, in addition to the efficient DAB+ standard that is gradually making its way to the UK. You can tune in to DAB+ stations such as Fun Kids children's radio, Magic Chilled and Jazz FM, if you live in the coverage area for the new second, national commercial radio bundle. There's also an FM tuner built-in, for local FM and community stations. So the word is: don't worry, your C-F6 is pretty much futureproofed with any technical changes or developments as far as radio is concerned.

As far as BBC programmes are concerned, the Pure Evoke C-F6 is a little disappointing in that we understand it cannot stream the entire catalogue of BBC listen again content. While it is able to access and stream BBC Podcasts, full programmes aren't yet available due to current technical limitations with the C-F6's firmware, which means it is incompatible with the BBC's streaming methods introuduced last year. While this is less of a problem with speech shows on Radio 4, music shows generally have tracks truncated or omitted due to broadcast restrictions.

The 'F6 includes twin full-range 3 inch speakers for stereo sound, letting you fully appreciate your CD collection as it was intended to be heard. Many internet and several DAB stations also broadcast in stereo - and there's 2 x 10 Watts RMS power output available. A useful headphone socket allows you to listen without disturbing others.

A Bluetooth (A2DP) wireless connection lets you stream audio from your smartphone to the C-F6, but a 3.5mm audio socket is also available if you don't want to mess about with Bluetooth pairing.

Wireless internet radio is available with a broadband internet connection (the C-F6 is compatible with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz systems) and - as a backup - there's a wired RJ45 socket for cable connections to your router. 802.11a, 11b and 11g are all supported with the latest wireless encryption.

The 2.8 inch colour display shows radio and mp3 track information on CD-R and CD-RW discs, making station selection and music streaming a more immersive experience.

The Evoke C-F6 include clock radio functions; the audio system lets you set two independent alarms to wake to a DAB or DAB+ digital (or FM) radio station, play an internet radio station or a CD, or sound an alarm tone, to a volume setting chosen by you. An adjustable sleep timer lets you drift off, while the radio turns itself off from between 15 to 60 minutes. A snooze setting is adjustable between 1 and 10 minutes, for an extra few minutes' rest.

The Pure C-F6 boasts class-leading audio, thanks to digital amplification circuitry wrapped in a wooden-style case. The slot-loading CD stage plays regular CDs, as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs for sounds you've created yourself.

The 3 direct-access numbered keys for saving favourite stations in memory are combined with a fourth button to access a further 27 presets in combination with a dial. Terrestrial DAB, DAB+ and FM stations are recieved through the unit's built-in telescopic aerial.

The tabletop Pure Evoke C-D6 measures in at 145mm high x 380mm wide x 223mm deep and is a reassuring 4.2kg.

The Evoke C-F6 gives you stereo sound for your CD collection and those DAB/DAB+ stations that broadcast in stereo. Its comprehensive remote control lets you control all major features from your armchair. Like all of the new Evoke range, it comes with a three-year warranty.

The Pure Evoke C-F6 is available from John Lewis at £349.95 or from Amazon for the same price or less.
