Radio Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire join local digital radio

Local digital radio covering Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire has started this evening.

Radio Pembrokeshire, Radio Carmarthenshire, Nation Hits! and Nation Radio joined the new multiplex for Mid and West Wales on Thursday evening (broadcasting at 112kbps joint stereo), ahead of an official launch at 1 minute past midnight on 30th August. Real Radio, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru will also be heard across Swansea Bay, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire from transmitters at Kilvey Hill, Swansea, Carmel, Carmarthenshire and Preseli in Pembrokeshire with an extra transmitter at Greenhill to be installed in 2014, covering Tenby and the south of the county.

Real Radio, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio Wales are already broadcasting on local DAB in and around Swansea Bay and Real Radio seems to have swapped to the new Mid and West Wales multiplex to avoid duplication in the area. [updated 30th Aug 2013] Nation Hits! is in mono 80kbps on the South-East Wales multiplex, but regional modern rock station Nation Radio has increased bitrate from 64kbps mono to 112kbps joint stereo in moving from the recently closed South Wales regional multiplex.

The new bundle of stations officially launch on 00:01 on 30th August 2013, broadcast from three new transmitters on block 12D. You'll need to retune your DAB radio to get the new stations.

To receive DAB digital radio services, you need a type of radio designed to pick up digital broadcasts over the airwaves through its built-in aerial. We've links to good models on our pages, or scroll down the page for some quick links to both DAB and wi-fi receivers.
