Herts, Beds and Bucks gets local DAB on Valentine's Day 2013

BBC Three Counties Radio, Gold, Heart and Capital FM will launch on DAB digital radio in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire on 14th February 2013.

Five stations are planned to begin broadcasting on DAB to the area on the 14th February. Jack FM may also form part of the line-up, having launched as part of Oxford's DAB bundle in December 2012 and included as a service in the licence application.

A coverage map is available to view. This shows the predicted coverage when test transmissions are complete and the multiplex is fully launched.

As part of a recent agreement between multiplex operator Arquiva and Global Radio, owners of Gold, Heart and Capital FM brands, the three stations will join the bundle of services at launch time.

It is understood Northampton's multiplex will also be on-air by April 2013 [coverage map] - possibly launching on the same date as the three counties' multiplex - however, no official announcement has yet been made. The multplex will carry the county's local BBC Radio Northampton and the three Global stations above, as a minimum.

The launch of BBC Three Counties Radio, Heart and Gold on DAB will not affect their transmission on FM (or AM, in the case of Gold) or online; they can still be heard on an analogue radio or over the internet.

To receive DAB stations you need a type of radio designed to pick up digital broadcasts through a built-in aerial. If you're interested in getting one, you can see a wide range to buy on our pages.
