At last! Deal gets DAB on in Oxford & northern Home Counties

Four new local DAB digital radio multiplexes will launch as part of a deal between digital operator Arquiva and Global Radio, owners of Heart and Capital FM.

Oxford's local digital services will start on 21st December 2012; a tie-up with the city's Jack FM will mean that the station "playing what we want" will also be heard on digi radio.

Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire's combined digital services will be on-air by the beginning of April 2013, with nearby Northamptonshire's multiplex also launching during the same period.

Derbyshire's local multliplex will launch by the end of 2013.

As part of the agreement, Oxford's DAB radio multiplex will carry BBC Radio Oxford, Gold, Heart, Jack FM and Capital FM, with more stations likely to follow once the multiplex is established.

The remaining multiplexes will carry the BBC local radio station for the area, Heart and Capital FM as a minimum. Other stations are likely to join once the multiplexes have launched.

To receive DAB stations you need a type of radio designed to pick up digital broadcasts through a built-in aerial. If you're interested in getting one, you can see a wide range to buy on our pages.
