Countdown to ten new DAB radio transmitters

Digital One, the national commercial DAB operator is planning a series of ten new transmitters across the UK.

Almost 2 million listeners will be covered by the expansion, leading to almost 90 percent coverage by UK population in the latter part of 2007.

Details are:

  • Scottish Borders : two new transmitters; Selkirk and Riddings Hill (south of Dumfries)

  • Cumbria : two new transmitters; Whitehaven and Workington

  • Yorkshire Coast : three new transmitters; Bridlington; Scarborough and Whitby

  • Derbyshire : one new transmitter in Chesterfield

  • South Coast : two new transmitters; Newhaven and Eastbourne

Following the switch-on of the new digital radio transmitters, listeners with a DAB digital radio in the above areas will be able to pick up the national digital services by performing an "Autotune" or "Autoscan" with their DAB-enabled tuner or radio. The list of stations available is as follows:
  • Classic FM

  • Core (mono)

  • Life (mono)

  • Oneword (mono)

  • Planet Rock

  • talkSPORT (mono)

  • Virgin Radio

  • theJazz (mono)

Listeners in the area will also be able to pick up 5 channels of mobile TV and DAB radio on a suitably-equipped mobile 'phone.
