Ivel FM walk away with Yeovil licence

The new radio station on the South-East border of Somerset will be Ivel FM, it has been announced. Ivel FM will serve the town of Yeovil and parts of Somerset and North-West Dorset with music for a broad group of listeners aged betwen 25 and 64.

Radio Investment's station will launch towards the end of the year or in the early part of 2004. The company beat competition from Merlin FM, Mirage FM and YDR FM to bag the licence.

The Yeovil licence reaches a landmark 150th licence award from the commercial radio regulator. The Radio Authority, which grew out of the old IBA, began its duties in 1991.

Tony Stoller, Chief Executive of the Radio Authority, commented:
"The Yeovil licence is the 150th new local analogue licence award made by the Radio Authority since we began in 1991. The Authority has licensed new stations at an average of more than one per month... allowing a range and diversity of radio services to develop across the UK."
