Reading and Basingstoke look to middle of 2004 for local DAB services

The towns of Reading and Basingstoke have been earmarked for their own local DAB services and the licence to run the multiplex is being advertised. The only certainty about the multiplex is that local station BBC Radio Berkshire must be broadcast alongside other stations.

Local multiplex operator NOWdigital is expected to submit an application for the licence, as its parent company, GWR Group plc, already operate 2-Ten FM in the area.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday, 20 May 2003. An award is likely to follow in late Summer or early Autumn, with any services likely to launch in early Summer 2004. The multiplex will cover an area to include parts of Northern Hampshire and West Berkshire.
