West Lothian waits until 10th April for decision on River FM

River FM's determined fishing for a dedicated radio station for Livingston and Bathgate could soon pay off. The trial station for the area is hoping to win the full-time FM radio licence, which is to be awarded in April.

In 1999 and 2000, the team broadcast two month-long trial services, under the working title Real Radio. It has just been named as the sole applicant for the licence.

The station's backers include Dominic Keane from Livingston Football Club, John Collins from Clan FM and Jimmy Young from Clan FM and Radio Grapevine, West Lothian's Hospital Radio Service.

River FM's emphasis will be on local news, people and sport. Music tailored to local tastes is also promised.

The station is likely to launch in Autumn 2003, if it wins the licence.
