DAB digital radio sales riding high

The Pure Evoke-1 is leading the radio revolution, with the number of DAB digital radio tuners in use doubling since the Christmas rush to buy.

The GBP99 Pounds portable digital radio formed part of a sell-out Christmas for the new technology, with the number of DAB-enabled radios now exceeding 135,000. Almost all of the 75,000 units made available over the Christmas period have been sold.

Digital radio sales are expected to top the half-million mark by the end of 2003. Retailers on the high street and online reported very strong sales of DAB receivers, with Dixons and John Lewis struggling to meet the demand of its customers over the busy Christmas period. Retailers still report a high demand for the Pure Evoke in January.

Meanwhile, Pure Digital is planning to launch a carry-around, personal DAB digital radio around the GBP150 Pounds mark by the end of March this year, of a similar size to the Persel DR-101 DAB personal tuner.
