Just one contender for the Exeter and Torbay locally-transmitted digital radio multiplex

The only applicant for the new Exeter and Torbay local digital radio licence, Now Digital, has revealed the stations it will be offering for the area. Both Gemini FM and Classic Gold Digital will take their place on the multiplex, as existing services for the area. The local BBC service, BBC Radio Devon will also feature.

  • Passion - A new digital service playing adult contemporary and world music.

  • Ritz - A new digital service playing today's best country and all time country legends: currently available on the Liverpool DAB multiplex, amongst others.

  • Flix - A new digital service playing music from films and shows: currently available on the internet and on the Coventry local DAB multiplex.

  • Dance - A new digital service providing a modern dance music service.

  • (extra service) - A new service launching within two years of the others, the format of which will be announced at a later date.

Now Digital Director Gregory Watson said:
The range of services we propose for Exeter & Torbay combines popular existing local services with an attractive range of new radio services and data applications. The whole multiplex proposition has been specifically designed to broaden choice and meet a wide variety of tastes and interests. The introduction of further services during the first two years will help us offer even more choice.

Our application reflects the interests and tastes of the local community. We have consulted with the local audience and businesses through meetings in Exeter & Torbay and consumer research, and have gained considerable feedback as to what the local community would like to hear on radio over the next decade. We consider that we have submitted a licence winning bid, which offers a strong range of new services of significant appeal.

Managing Director of Gemini FM, Graham Gilbert said:
Gemini FM has provided a first class service since its launch in 1995 and is proud to be at the forefront of bringing digital radio to Exeter & Torbay. Now Digital's proposed line up will significantly increase local choice for radio listeners and advertisers and shows how far radio has come since local commercial radio first launched in Exeter & Torbay.
